question of the day

Appropriate for church or not?

Thursday, June 9, 2011

would you rather?

A.  Be skinny and not be able to eat your favorite foods without gaining weight (pasta, pizza, bread, homemade cookies/desserts).  Ever.  Doesn't matter if you work out or not.

or,

B.  Be a little chubby and eat what you like.

Those are your only choices, no combining/adding to them.

more evidence that i am a mother hen

I am the biggest mother hen.

I hate my boys to be gone for too long from me.
If they sleep at Grammy's, I miss them.
If I go away without them, I miss them.
And when they're gone, they're on my mind.
Friday night dates?  I want them to go with us.
If Luvpilot and I go out without them, we talk about them.
I must have my family around me.

So....

Taylor (14 years old) has a field trip coming up with his school.
It's an overnighter.
To the Grand Canyon.
On a dry river run.
Without me.

Can I do it?
Can I let him go without secretly following behind?
Granted, it's a small charter school, with probably less than 50 people going,
but he's still my baby.
And I'll still worry.

Would you, could you do it?

I know I'll have to let them go someday, but it doesn't mean it has to start now.

**edited to add - I'm not sure they're having parent volunteers, and even if they do, with Luvpilot's schedule I probably wouldn't be able to go.

question of the day

When do you make your kids do their homework?
Right after school?
After dinner?
Whenever they decide?

Me?

My kids come home tired, hungry, and needing a break.
So I let them unwind, tell me about their day, play, or just hang out for a little while.
Homework usually comes right after dinner for us.

Also,
do you think your kids have too much homework or just about right?

question of the day

What do you usually give for graduation gifts?

(and does anyone know why all the stuff previously on my sidebar, is suddenly now down at the bottom of my blog?  so annoying. Update - I think I fixed it. Let me know if it doesn't look right to you.)

it's not who you know.....oh who am i kidding, of course it's who you know

The talented Ashley at Cutest Blog On The Block is a real-life (verses imaginary) friend of mine, and was so sweet to design some headers for me. The only problem is I like them all and can't decide which one to use. What do you think?

front door decor

With the holidays and seasons changing, I'm always changing my decor around, inside and out. You know that already.

This is my new door hanging I recently did. I'm loving the tin pocket with the nozzle. Luvpilot said, "Great, I have a faucet coming out of my door," but whatever, it's not what he thinks, it's what I think, right?

Do you like how I tried to conveniently place the plants around the spyhole?

Anywho, I'm trying to decide whether to paint the frame or leave it black. While the frame looks good close up, from farther away it gets a little lost.

I also have a lot of cream colored things on my front porch, which makes me wonder if I should paint it cream too.

Thoughts?

question of the day

This is a buffet I inherited from my Grandma and Grandpa.
{I used to have the matching dining room table until Luvpilot's dog chewed the ornately carved leg up. I'm still bitter about that.}

Right now it sits in my front room. I love it.
My question is, would you keep it as is, with all it's flaws?
Or would you paint it?

Funny story - my Grandpa's social security number is actually carved into the side. I guess he thought that if someone broke into their house and stole it, (you know because it's so easy and light to carry), the police would be able to get it back to him that way. I still remember when he did it. I think I was about 12.

question of the day

Say you had to choose between,

beautiful flooring for your house...

or a little nip, tuck and lift for yourself...

Which would you chose?
(hypothetically speaking of course)

question of the day

Teacher gifts.

What are you doing?

or what have you seen done that is fun?

I like to do something they can really use rather than just the little knickknack which they get so many of after lots of years of teaching. A person can have only so many #1 Teacher gifts, right?

I did see a cute idea for the younger grades.

A book such as If You Give a Moose a Muffin, with a muffin mix & tin.

I've done refillable movie cups with a movie gift card and box of candy inside,
gift cards to Scholastic Books so they could choose books for their class,
gift cards to other stores where they could buy something they needed for the class or something for themselves,
custom made magnet boards & clipboards,
to name a few.

What do you think the perfect teacher gift is?

Teachers are some of the most underpaid people, in my opinion. I read on someones blog last year that this person refused to buy teachers gifts because she thinks their salary is gift enough. Agree or disagree?

question of the day

Tree - real or fake?

Lights - white or colored?

Me?
While I like the look and smell of real trees, I don't like having to keep them watered,
or the mess they make.
Or waiting for Luvpilot to be in town to go get us one.
And sometimes they're just not perfect.
And they're expensive unless you go cut your own.

So, I'd rather have fake, prelit, with white lights.
I love a tall, formal glittery tree. Packed with ornaments.
But also a more homespun tree with gingerbread men & vintage looking hangtags.
But then there's also the retro ornament tree.
And the airplane tree.
And the boys' tree full of ornaments they made or received when they were little.
I would so love an all-white tree with crystals hanging.

Have I told you we have a lot of trees?

What kind of tree do you like?

hypothetical question

So if you had a child that was up in the night, not able to sleep because of coughing, who wasn't really sick and felt fine but woke up really really tired this morning, would you?:

a) let him stay home even though school was dismissed yesterday due to no electricity, and there was no school tomorrow due to a holiday.

b) tell him he'll be fine and send him out the door.

c) fuel him with caffeine and/or sugar so he's awake and happy before sending him off.

d) some other option

how do you like your kisses?

Right now I am hooked on Pumpkin Spice, but love the look of the Candy Corn ones so I have to eat those too.

What's your flavor?

question of the day

Would you rather be skinny and not be able to eat your favorite foods,

or be chubby and eat what you want?

There is no choosing both, or saying you'll eat and exercise it off, it's one or the other here.

(I've lost 26 pounds but haven't eaten my faves in a very long time)

question of the day

When you plan a birthday party for your child, and send out invites to their friends, is it assumed that parents will come too?

I've noticed a difference between how some do parties here. When Connor has been invited to a party unless it says "parents/siblings welcome", I don't plan on staying. But I have noticed that at a few of those parties that Connor has been at, there have been parents and siblings stay the whole time, and that the hosts of the party just planned on them being there, and act surprised that I'm not staying.

Say your kids were invited to a birthday party for a 9 year old at a skating rink and nothing was mentioned on the invite encouraging parents to stay. Would you stay anyway or would you just drop them off go do your thing and pick them up at the end of the party?

This exact situation happened to my cute cousin. She and her hubby dropped her kids off at the party, then went down the street to a movie until the party was over, then picked them up at the appointed time, and the host of the party thought she was totally rude for doing that. There had been no mention of parents staying on the invite, and when she saw how many adults they had for help, just assumed that that she would be in the way. I would've done the same thing.

So what's your opinion?

just curious

Does it bug you when your real life friends don't comment on your blog, but you know they're reading it?

What about when you see their comments on other friends' blogs?

Here's my answer (since you asked Kristina M). I get that everyone is busy and sometimes you just don't have anything to say. Sometimes when I get to Kristina P's blog and there are 208 comments already, there is nothing I can think of to say that hasn't been said. But what bugs me is when a friend in real life who I see in real life, isn't commenting but is commenting on all of our other friends' blogs. That makes me feel bad. Maybe it shouldn't, but it does.

{p.s. thanks for all the kind words regarding the loss of our dog}

new question because I really wanna know...

If you voted for President Obama, do you really and truly approve of what he's done so far in office, and what he is now trying to do, especially with concerns to the Healthcare proposal as it stands?

And if you do approve, why?

You can comment anonymously if you choose.

I won't criticize your opinion but if you want me to respect it, please voice it in a nice way.

I really am just curious if everyone is still feeling the love they felt a few months ago.
